Trauma, PTSD and grief
Trauma does not stay in the past. It shows up as a startle response out of proportion to the moment, a body that will not settle, sleep that does not restore, and reactions that surprise you more than anyone else.
The work is not about reliving the worst of it on command. It is about widening your window of tolerance until the memory is something you have rather than something that has you.
What we work on
- Hypervigilance and a startle response that never fully resets
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive images
- Avoidance of places, people, or conversations that feel dangerous
- Numbing, disconnection, and difficulty feeling present
- Shame that arrived with the event and never left
- Grief that others expect you to be finished with by now
How I work with this
We start with stabilization — sleep, grounding, the practical business of getting through a week — before anything deeper. That is not a delay; it is the foundation that makes the harder work safe.
From there the pace is yours. I will not push you into a memory you are not ready to be in, and you can stop a session at any point without explaining why.
Grief often runs alongside trauma. A loss that others think you should be over by now gets its own room here, at whatever speed it needs.
Sessions are held by secure video for clients anywhere in Colorado, Arizona, Maine, Minnesota and Idaho.
